  Food of the Month
(HealthCastle.com) Dried split peas are often found in the bulk section of the grocery store, or prepackaged in bags on the shelf. If they seem rather mysterious to you, let this be the month that you give them a try! Split peas are so called because of their shape when fresh, they are actually round (like the more familiar frozen green peas). They split into their two halves after being harvested, peeled and dried. They are available pretty much any time of the year, and belong to the same family of plants as beans and lentils. The two most common varieties you are likely to find are green or yellow in color.
